The Chair: a piece of seating furniture formed in one of many variations for one person, consisting as a rule of a frame, a seat and a backrest
The Stack: an orderly pile or group of things
For us, sitting on a chair is something entirely natural. But that has not always been the case: in former times, the chair served as a sign of distinction particularly for rulers. At first, only the King sat on his throne, the people had to sit on the floor. Over the course of the centuries, the chair became democratized, so that today, all of us are Kings, as it were – only our thrones have changed into swivel chairs, stackable chairs, park benches and executive chairs.
The stacking chair already bears its benefit in its name: it can be stacked one on top of one another and be stored in a space-saving manner. We make a distinction between a chair that can be stacked vertically and a chair that can be stacked towards the front – the first one is clearly the better high-riser, since up to 15 chairs can be stacked vertically, compared to a maximum of five to seven chairs stacked towards the front. On answering the question “Since when are chairs being stacked?”, the experts are at odds. However, it is a fact that man is really trying to achieve records in stacking – in the truest sense of the word: in 2008 in Dusseldorf, 1806 chairs were used in order to set a new world record in stacking chairs, reaching a summit of 11.01 m.
As you know, records aren’t what Brunner is interested in – but quality and innovative design are. As a specialist for stacking chairs, the company puts a particular emphasis day after day on developing new possibilities. So that event organizers can save even more storage space, are able to put up and dismantle their rows of chairs even faster, and guests will find even better and even more comfortable seats.
