„Kultur Räume“ Gütersloh – City Hall and Theater

1. How do you start your working day?
I have a good cup of tea and get the first overview of the newspaper criticisms of the latest events. Then I schedule my day according to my calendar.

2. What makes a working day successful for you?
When I've completed my work load that I planned in the morning, and when the hall is sold out at night. When the event is carried out in such a way that everybody's happy.

Ralf Fritzsche, Commercial Director

3. What do you do for lunch?
Usually, I take a stroll across the city and run some errands. When I'm out and about in the fresh air, I get some new ideas and motivation for what I have to do in the afternoon.

4. What do you love most about your job or your workplace?
That there are new challenges every day. No day is similar to any other. Often you need to improvise at very short notice.

5. How many people do you talk to every day during your work time?
I talk to my direct collaborators around me as well as with my coworkers within the management on a daily basis, we talk about upcoming events. Due to the rebuilding of the new theater just across City Hall, I have to talk with a lot of people working for City Hall in order to coordinate details about the new construction. And finally, I’m the contact person for all questions regarding events, especially regarding remuneration, for our customers.

6. If you had one wish: what would you change about your workplace?
We try not to regard culture as so-called high culture. Rather, we try to find the right things for all ages and all interest groups. If I were able to do a program for older citizens, rockers and kids, that was affordable and accepted, that would be great.

7. Your working day is long and demanding. Where do you get the motivation to go to the office every day?
Since May 2008, the new theatre in Gütersloh is being built. Every morning, you can see small or big changes at the site. With this progress, there are new and different challenges for me every day that I have to deal with by planning and improvisation. Right now, there are only 2 months left until the grand opening. The preparations for this event are already in full swing, and I’m looking forward to a splendid premiere, and to be a part of it myself.

8. Is there a Brunner product that particularly impressed you? And why?
The chair alite, which we recently purchased for our City Hall. This chair has a strikingly beautiful design and is very lightweight. Moreover, we have come to value the electronic seat numbering already during the first days of use. And last but not least, this chair is very comfortable to sit on.

9. If there is something that gets you angry during your work day -- what makes you happy again?
The laughter of my five-year-old son when I come home from work, and his exuberant joy when he talks to me about his day.

10. Is there a ritual with which you end your working day?
Despite all the requirements my work imposes on me, I always try to take my son to bed myself every night. This “tradition” is very important for me. If necessary, I drive back to work after that.
